Airlines Pocket New Travel Tax

Irish airlines Ryanair and Aer Lingus will pocket thousands on Euros worth of the Irish Government's new air travel tax paid by flight no-shows.

Booked passengers who do not make their flights are entitled to claim back the €10 airport tax back from the airlines, but in many cases it will cost too much to do so.

Both airlines charge a €20 administrative charge for tax refunds. The new airport tax was part of a number of changes to Ireland's income tax legislation in the 2009 Irish Budget.
