In an effort to help those who suffered most from the bushfires, the government of Victoria announced an extensive stamp duty relief. Businesses that were incapacitated as a result of the fires will also be relieved of land tax.
This tax relief also extends to people who are relocating and purchasing or building property elsewhere. Properties of up to $0.5M will not attract stamp duty.
People who lost their cars in the fires will receive a relief for the first $1050 of stamp duty owed for a replacement vehicle.
The waivers will not apply to holiday properties and commercial vehicles.
