My trip to Queenstown

Learn more about Queenstown from our sales exec Rob! A beautiful resort town on New Zealand's south island, you won't be disappointed if you visit!

Queenstown is a small town on the south island of New Zealand with an urban population of about 13K, however if you count backpackers and tourists this population rises to about 28k!. It’s such a unique place, where you’re not only surrounded by the awesome rugged beauty of its mountains and Lake Wakatipu, but there are also hundreds of activities to avail of. It's a paradise for people who like to spend the holidays being active instead of just chilling on the beach.

The average New Zealand tax refund is $550

Everyone, especially adrenaline junkies, will find something for their taste; skydiving, bungee-jumping, canyon swing, horse-riding, hiking, fishing, rafting, paragliding, mountain biking, kayaking, zip-riding, quad biking...the list is endless! Just be prepared-your wallet will get thinner by the end of your stay, but it’s worth the investment!

The food - one of the best burgers I've ever had would probably be the famous Fergburger (with lamb of course). After sampling this delicious, succulent chunk of meaty goodness I understood why there was a big queue. Now, to build an objective opinion we also tried Ferg's "rival" burger joint-Devil Burger, and came to the conclusion that nothing can compare to Ferg's. Once you've had the best, you can't settle for average.

In between your burger meals, you should go to the Cookie Bar "Cookie Muncher", where you can treat yourself to an oven-fresh warm super-delicious cookie (or in my case two!) and have it by the lakeside. Heaven on earth, it really is.

If you feel like you need to balance having Queenstown cookies with some exercise, just do the hike up the hill! What can be better than a workout in nature? Queenstown is full of great walks but the best one in terms of a spectacular view over the town and Lake Wakatipu is the Queenstown Hill Walking Track. It's a 2hr-return track that takes you to the summit of the mountain where you'll have 360-degrees perspective over the town. And it's breathtaking. When you're up there you just won't want to leave.

Another beautiful walk is the Tiki Trail that takes you to the Skyline Restaurant at the top of the hill. You can take a gondola and get there in 10 minutes for amazing views. If you prefer to walk you can listen to birds, smell the fresh scent of the pines, try wild blackberries, sit in tree-carved  chairs and feel the breeze. Once you get to the top you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views.

You can't stop in Queenstown without a visit to the Kiwi Birdlife Park. Kiwis are elusive creatures that usually only go out at night, but thanks to the special downlighting, you'll be able to see these fascinating flightless birds that are only native to New Zealand.
