NZ Workers Get More Tax Cuts

New Zealanders earning an average wage will be about $18 per week better off from April 1st 2009 thanks to tax cuts due to be passed in Government this week.

The 33% NZ income tax threshold rises from NZ$40k to NZ$48K the tax rate on income about NZ$70K drops from 39% to 38%. A new tax rebate of $10 per week for low-income workers earning between $24k and $50K who are not eligible for social welfare will be introduced, while the NZ research and development tax credit is being repealed.

The NZ Government hopes the new tax package will help pull New Zealand through the recession and help increase road and school construction.
