Revenue warns taxpayers to file outstanding tax returns

Revenue have recently explained that it will be sending reminder letters to taxpayers and their agents this week to notify them where 2010 returns have not been recorded as filed. Letters will be issued to those who, according to Revenue records had a filing obligation where the return was not received by 3 February 2012.

Revenue is encouraging taxpayers to file their outstanding returns and make their tax payments as soon as possible in order to minimise their exposure to interest and penalties. In addition, taxpayers are being reminded that failure to comply increases the possibility of being selected for audit and may even lead to prosecution.

If an individual receives a letter from Revenue this week and they believe that they are not obliged to submit a tax return they should contact their tax district.
