American Ireland Fund Gala New York

22 May 2009

The Taxback Group and our partner Concur supported the 34th Annual American Ireland Fund Gala event in New York on May 14th.

The American Ireland Fund is one of the largest networks of people of Irish ancestry and friends of Ireland around the world. The organisation is dedicated to raising funds to support programs of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout the Ireland.

The gala dinner in May raised $2.32 million – including a $10,000 contribution from Taxback.

Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Brian Cowen was honoured at the event for his work in strengthening bonds between Ireland and the diaspora (people of Irish heritage permanently displaced from Ireland). New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg was also honoured.

Monies raised from American Ireland Fund events such as the New York gala go toward worthy projects such as programs in Northern Ireland which support those affected by the troubles, promote social inclusion, citizenship and participation and encourage a greater understanding of cultural identity within and between communities.

Other American Ireland Fund projects include promoting the regeneration of marginalised urban and rural communities and arts and culture programmes which target special needs projects and marginalised children.
