Taxback.com makes donation towards Astro-turf pitch in Kilkenny Gaelscoil

08 May 2013

Gaelscoils, popular throughout Ireland, are schools where the children learn through the Gaelic language, the ancient indigenous language of Ireland. Gaelscoil Osraí in Kilkenny is one such school. Children, parents and teachers there are determined to build an all-weather astro-turf pitch within their school grounds, so that the children will be able to actively participate in games and sport all year round, regardless of weather conditions.

In an effort to raise funds for their worthy cause, they recently launched plans for a Fun Run, or ‘Rith Beo’ (gaelic), which will take place on Sunday May 26th in Kilkenny. Through our Progress through Play CSR Initiative, Taxback.com was delighted to donate €1,000 to the event, presented to the school by Taxback.com HR Manager Brendan Ahearne. Brendan had the great fortune to rub shoulders with acclaimed Kilkenny Hurler Jackie Tyrell and legendary GAA commentator, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, who also attended the launch of the Rith Beo.

The Fun Run and Family Fun Day for Gaelscoil Osraí, Loughboy, Kilkenny, will have plenty of entertainment laid on, including bouncy castles and face-painting. However, their 10km or 5km routes cater for all fitness levels, and participants, who must raise sponsorship in order to take part, will be able to walk or run the race, so it looks to be an inclusive event for all the family.
